About Alice
I am currently a French language assistant in a provincial college in Ireland as part of a France Education International mission.
My school and academic career seems to me to say a lot about my intellectual training and what makes me the teacher I am today. Get ready for a little European trip.
Following my literary Baccalaureate, I followed a literary prep course in Toulouse (Hypokhâgne, Khâgne) which allowed me to explore French, Latin, English and German literature as well as the philosophy and history of art in general.
I continued my studies with a Bachelor of Modern Literature at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and grabbed a Master of Comparative Literature in the same faculty. In Master 2, I finalized my dissertation on the rewriting of Celtic tales in 21st century feminist children's literature. It is with a certain pleasure that I was able to detect in certain contemporary poetic and visual productions remnants of the magic of ancient bardesses and druidesses. This pleasure is all the more certain since I moved away from Paris for this second year of my Master's degree thanks to the Erasmus program. You can believe me, it is more pleasant to study the legendary goddesses from the Italian university library in Turin than in the middle of the real Irish showers of Connemara.
I am passionate about writing, reading, music and cinema. My knowledge in these areas often gives me the opportunity to explain a concept through parallels or references that I am always keen to share. Furthermore, as part of my international teaching mission, I am trained, I learn and I put into practice the new inclusive and digital pedagogies which are flourishing today.
I think I learned in Gaelic class at the Collège des Irlandais in Paris what “understanding nothing at all” means and in Italy the incredible plasticity of the human brain. Every day I confront with a little more ease the magnificent Irish accent which helps to make the English language an almost infinite field of exploration. Whatever your level or position regarding French and its literature, I am sure that together we will find something to re-enchant all of this.

From my personal experience, I know that the trigger is rarely found in relentlessness but in gaining self-confidence. I have recently acclimated myself to new digital tools and I had the opportunity to work with students in difficulty in an alternative school. If you have ADD or have DYS characteristics... I'm here!
Children and young people have often already heard, written and learned by heart for a while the fundamental lessons of grammar, spelling and conjugation. I proceed with exercises such as "liberated dictations" where the student does not have his copy withdrawn at the end of the regulatory ten minutes. On the contrary, he or she has the opportunity to calmly reread the points highlighted by the teacher and thus take control of his or her own copy. The student realizes that very often he knows what would have been right to write, that there is nothing serious in making a mistake in haste and that with experience and be careful, he will be able to reread effectively and write more and more quickly.
I also like to reconnect the student with the pleasure that one can have in writing for oneself, regardless of grades and deadlines, because it is the best way to free one's pen when school tests require it. These very standardized and demanding rhetorical exercises are tackled in a second step, once the student knows how to achieve them.
I am convinced that precise theoretical reminders and uninhibited practice are the key to success in French.
With older students who need support in assimilating literary history and literature in general, I proceed according to the student's particular program and I look for the aspect of the work and the author who would be most likely to interest him. Very often, a simple context and reformulation of the course issues are enough to reconnect the student to what is said in class.
