About Samantha
I am a bilingual French and English speaker with five years of experience teaching languages.
I hold a B.A. in French, with concentrations in linguistics and education. I also have an M.A. in French Literature and am working on my Ph.D. in the same subject. In addition to these accomplishments, I have a TEFL Certificate.
On top of teaching private students, I also work as a Course Instructor at the University of Toronto's French Department. My students say that they appreciate my sense of humour, as well as my dedication to their success. They say that I have a knack for explaining grammar, too!
Before coming to the U of T, I worked in a variety of elementary school settings in France (Rennes, Le Mans) and Minnesota (Northfield, St. Paul). This has given me meaningful experiences with adults and children alike; I feel comfortable working with a wide variety of age groups.
I hold my lessons on Skype or Zoom. I'm also willing to use other platforms based on the needs and resources of my students.

Bonjour!
I provide individualized experiences to beginner and intermediate French students. Using a mix of reading, writing, speaking and cultural activities, my goal is to support your holistic progress in the target language.
Our first lesson will begin with your strengths and goals. Where do you feel comfortable, and where do you want to improve? I will then assess your writing, speaking, and reading skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Finally, I will develop lessons that are suited to your level.
I typically incorporate writing, reading, and speaking components into each lesson. However, I am open to adapting this structure according to your schedule and needs. At the end of each lesson, you will receive notes from me, as well as a transcript of our chat (if applicable)
I am comfortable working with adult and child learners. However, I ask that children under 12 have some sort of adult supervision (i.e. an adult in the same room).
