About SABRIEN

I am a geographer by day and have been teaching French for over 10 years. With a strong background in spatial analysis and cultural studies, I bring a global perspective to my language instruction. My experience in both geography and education allows me to connect language learning to real-world contexts, helping students understand not just French grammar and vocabulary, but also the cultural and regional diversity of the Francophone world.

About the lesson

Warm-Up (10 minutes) – Conversation & Review

Objective: Activate prior knowledge and build speaking confidence.

Casual conversation in French:

Comment s’est passée ta semaine ?

Qu’est-ce que tu as étudié récemment ?

Quick grammar review (choose one depending on previous lesson):

Present tense vs. passé composé

Être vs. avoir

Adjective agreement

Mini-activity:
Student describes their university schedule using at least 5 full sentences.

Vocabulary Development (15 minutes)

Theme: University & Academic Life

Key vocabulary:

Activity:

Optional cultural extension:
Brief comparison between French and U.S. university systems (e.g., la licence vs. bachelor’s degree).

Grammar Focus (20 minutes)
Example Topic: Passé Composé vs. Imparfait

Explanation:

Passé composé → completed actions

Imparfait → background, habits, ongoing states

Fill in blanks:

Hier, je ______ (aller) à la bibliothèque.

Quand j’étais petit(e), je ______ (étudier) le piano.

Production Practice:

“Ma première année à l’université”

Tutor corrects gently and notes recurring mistakes.
