About Angela
One of the core themes of my life has been maths. I have been fortunate in my youth to have teachers who loved the subject as much as I do, and this love of maths has stayed with me throughout. During secondary school, I completed Maths GCSE, Further Maths GCSE and Additional Further Maths... I would spend hours just doing maths for fun... This led to me deciding to do maths at A-Level, achieving A*s in both Maths and Further Maths and getting a place to study maths at Bristol. Teaching and learning are the 2 joys of life. It's super rewarding to see someone get something, and I don't think anything other than maths and logic gives you that feeling when you finally solve a problem! There really are no stupid questions and no stupid answers. Wrong answers sometimes are the best answers, because it shows the logic you're applying and that can be so useful to get you to the right answer! All students are different so initially I will work with them to gain understanding of their current knowledge, finding out areas they're more confident in and other topics which they find trickier. I'm acutely aware of the difficulties students can face including maths anxiety, low self-confidence or any neurodivergent traits so I adapt learning styles depending on this. I really do believe when a student feels supported, they are able to develop their abilities in maths! During university, I completed an Education in Maths module which gave me the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant in a KS2 class, and I have also volunteered as a tutor for almost 4 years, supporting students who were at risk of failing their Maths GCSE. All my students achieved a pass or higher after tutoring with me, and I saw a huge boost in their confidence in themselves during the time I worked with them!
