About Hongyu
I’ve had the privilege of completing a semester-long language exchange program at the Confucius Institute in Scotland, where I honed my skills in teaching Chinese to non-native speakers. Over the years, I’ve also helped many of my local Scottish friends improve their Chinese, which has given me a deep understanding of how to make language learning approachable and enjoyable for learners of all levels.
Graduating with a Master’s in Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh has enriched my perspective on culture and communication. This helps me connect with students on a deeper level by blending language learning with meaningful conversations about culture, food, and social trends—whatever sparks your interest!
As an INFP and Sagittarius, I’m naturally talkative, easygoing, and always ready to inspire and guide you along your learning journey. My lessons are casual yet effective, encouraging you to learn through engaging and friendly conversation, all while boosting your confidence in speaking Chinese.

My tutoring approach is all about keeping things casual and fun, like chatting with a friend! I believe learning should feel natural, so my classes are focused on conversational Chinese, where we dive into topics you actually care about. Whether it’s culture, food, social media trends, or anything else that grabs your attention, we can tailor the conversation to your interests.
A typical lesson lasts about an hour and a half, giving us plenty of time to explore the language and really get into a good flow. You can always let me know in advance if there's a specific topic you'd like to talk about!
My lessons are perfect for all levels and ages—whether you're just starting out or looking to improve your fluency. Everyone is welcome!
