About Isabelle
I'm a recent college graduate from the University of Chicago, and a lover of French language and literature throughout the Francophone world. I've been studying French for ten years. From my academic studies and my time spent living with French-speaking families, I command both formal aspects of French language expression, such as grammar, orthography, and vocabulary, in addition to informal aspects of French conversation, like vernacular vocabulary and oral comprehension. Over the course of high school and college, I have lived in French-speaking countries on three occasions: I spent a year living with a host family in Rennes, France; a summer on an intensive language study grant in Paris with my university; and a winter living with a French-speaking family in Rabat, Morocco. At UChicago, I also minored in French, diving into French literature from the 17th century to today. Next year, I'll be moving back to France--Marseille specifically-- to teach on a Fulbright, but for now, I'm excited to share my love of French with students at home.

I am an energetic, laid-back, and compassionate mentor. After a decade learning French in a variety of locations, from discussion-based classrooms and group study sessions to dinner table conversations and trips to the Saturday market with my host mother, I've developed a teaching style that is very casual, conversational, and collaborative. I like to hear from my students what interests them, and use those interests to drive language learning activities. Moreover, as a former engagement intern for my campus Hillel and the president of a campus residential community, I’ve had the privilege to work with students from diverse backgrounds, from members of a pluralistic Jewish community to students from across the world in our dorm, and our conversations have taught me the importance of listening first to understand a student's individual story and needs. As I continue to learn myself, I know how to exercise patience and constantly encourage my students.
