About Thomas
I have recently completed A-level student in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Product Design, with predicted grades of 4 A*. I achieved eight GCSE grade 9s, including a 9 in Maths, and have a strong academic background in mathematics.
I am passionate about helping students improve their confidence and performance in maths, and I aim to make topics as clear and accessible as possible. I focus on building deep understanding rather than memorisation, encouraging students to explain their thinking so I can quickly identify and address any gaps in knowledge.
During my A-level studies, I developed a strong understanding of how to break down complex mathematical ideas, both through self-study in Further Maths and by supporting fellow students with their learning. This experience has helped me develop a patient and adaptable teaching style that suits different abilities and learning speeds.
I understand the pressures of exams and what is required to succeed at GCSE level, and I use this to help students improve both their understanding and exam technique. My goal is to help every student feel more confident in maths and achieve the best possible results.

My lessons are structured, focused and designed to build real confidence in maths. I place a strong emphasis on understanding, encouraging students to explain their thinking throughout so I can identify gaps in knowledge and correct misconceptions quickly. This ensures they are not just memorising methods, but truly understand how and why techniques work. I regularly use exam-style questions during lessons to help students apply their knowledge under pressure and improve exam technique.
To support progress between lessons, I set short, targeted practice tasks such as exam questions or focused worksheets. These are designed to reinforce what has been covered and highlight any remaining weaknesses, allowing us to make faster progress in the next session without overwhelming the student.
Having taught myself A-level Further Maths and supported others during my studies, I am well placed to explain complex ideas clearly and adapt my explanations to different learning styles. I understand the common difficulties students face and how to overcome them effectively.
Lessons are typically 1 hour long, but can be adapted depending on the student’s needs and exam goals. I teach GCSE Maths students of all abilities, always tailoring my approach to the individual to help them improve confidence and achieve their target grades.
