About Arvid

Hi, my name is Arvid. I’m originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, and currently live in Berlin, Germany.

I have been teaching Danish to both beginners and advanced learners for three years and I feel truly lucky to have such a rewarding job. It brings me great pleasure to see my students make progress, become more confident speaking Danish, and feel more at ease navigating life in Denmark.

I have a deep passion for movies, music, cooking, history, art, and politics, and I love bringing these interests into my lessons to make the learning experience as engaging and relevant to the individual learner.

About the lesson

I have over three years of experience teaching Danish to English-speaking learners in both one-on-one and group sessions. I currently teach Danish at A1–C1 level for Berlitz, Learnlight and SwapLanguage to adult learners with varying professional, private, short – and long-term goals. I adopt a multimedia approach and focus on intercultural communication and preparing my learners for living and working in Denmark, including teaching them industry-specific vocabulary.

My teaching methodology puts the learner at the center and is highly adaptable. I ensure to assess each learner’s level, strengths, weaknesses, circumstances and goals, and then tailor lesson plans, materials, pace and activities accordingly. I strive to find instructional material, including movies, music and online content relevant to the learner’s interests and goals, making the learning process more engaging.
Typically, the lessons rely on PowerPoint presentations utilising a mix of exercises, such as reading exercises, structured practice exercises and performance rounds where the learner uses the new language in a role-play scenario mimicking a contextually relevant real-life situation.

To facilitate a proactive learning environment, I have feedback and progress evaluations with the learners to continually refine and realign my approach to create the best conditions for the learner to have an enriching learning experience. To assist with this, I have extensive experience creating instructional materials and homework and adapting existing resources such as Transparent Language Online, På Vej Til Dansk, Videre Mod Dansk and Teach Yourself’s Complete Danish.

As a native Danish speaker with an MA in History from University College London, I bring strong linguistic, cultural and analytical expertise to my teaching. My professional experience as a Danish–English/English–Danish translator and interpreter, together with my lexicographic skills, enables me to explain vocabulary, grammar, nuances and differences in usage with a high degree of precision.
