About James

Hi there! My name is James Wu and I am currently studying Biomedical Science at Monash University, Clayton campus. I have been a piano teacher for the past two years and I absolutely love my job! I have been playing piano for almost 14 years now and I attained my AMEB Grade 8 certificate back in 2012. My passion for playing piano always is, and always will be, as strong as ever. Therefore I am very eager to impart my skills and wealth of experience to young piano students, in particular those who are currently beginner level! I can prepare students looking to sit the AMEB exams as well, including teaching them technical scales and aural tests. I also have experience teaching adults, so please free to reach out if you are keen to get started!

Music has a huge potential to be an integral part of a child’s ability to succeed in the future. Why? Because it teaches three essential skills: discipline, patience and consistent practice. ALL of which are invaluable to achieve success no matter what your child decides to pursue later in life.

About the lesson

I have been a piano teacher for the past two years and I absolutely love my job! Seeing my students make steady progress from not knowing where middle C is on the piano to being able to play their favourite pieces on their own brings me so much pride and joy. I am looking to enrol 2-3 more regular students in my classes for 2021!
I consider myself a nurturing, patient and reliable person with strong communication skills. I am somewhat fluent in Mandarin Chinese if that is what the student feels comfortable speaking.
Furthermore, I strive to keep my lessons cheerful and light-hearted to ensure that my students are fully enjoying the experience of learning how to play piano - the pinnacle of all musical instruments. This is in part due to my belief that it is immensely important to build a strong relationship with my students through constructive criticism and mutual trust. I am inclined towards the Alfred Series piano books for the little ones, although I am happy to continue on with whatever a previous teacher may have utilised. I am also willing to travel to your house to give my lessons, granted that you are located within a reasonable distance from the Clayton area.
