About Tom
I’m a final-year Business and Economics undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh, tutoring GCSE and A-Level Maths. I achieved three A* grades at A-Level* (Maths, Economics and Geography) and a 9 in GCSE Maths. I’m naturally calm, patient, and easy to work with. I take tutoring seriously and care about the students I teach, aiming to create an environment where students feel supported rather than pressured. Being a current university student, I understand the demands that school and exams place on young people, which helps me relate to students and support them through challenging periods. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy keeping a good balance. I spent the past year studying at the University of Melbourne, enjoy travelling and spending time outdoors, and ski and play hockey when I can. I find this balance helps me stay grounded and connect well with the students I work with.

I focus on developing secure understanding of key topics before progressing, ensuring students are comfortable with the underlying ideas rather than just memorising methods. Sessions are typically 60 minutes and may include reviewing previous work, introducing new content, and practising exam-style questions where appropriate. I use clear explanations, worked examples, and guided practice to help students build confidence and independence over time. I tutor GCSE and A-Level Maths, supporting a wide range of abilities — from students who need extra help with fundamentals to those aiming to improve exam performance. Lessons are paced carefully, with flexibility to slow down, revisit topics, or adapt explanations to suit how the student learns best. My aim is steady progress, improved confidence, and a more positive approach to maths, both in lessons and in exams.
