About Dan
Hi there! My name is Dan and I’m a full-time music instrument tutor based in South Manchester. Welcome to my Superprof page!

I’ve been teaching piano, guitar, bass guitar and music theory as a full-time profession since 2020.
For me, teaching music is something that brings me great joy and fulfilment. I enjoy working with aspiring musicians of any age and ability to help them reach their goals, whether that’s developing professional musical skills, preparing for grades and exams, or just getting started!
At the heart of my teaching is the belief that, learning an instrument should be enjoyable and fulfilling - If you love the experience of learning music, you may find yourself doing it for the rest of your life! With that in mind, I like to work with each student personally, discussing their own music tastes and aspirations, and designing a course that's just for them - with lots of custom-made learning material along the way. (Want to learn a song but the sheet music doesn't exist? No problem, we'll make our own!)

Outside of teaching, I regularly perform live as a bass guitarist in North West England, playing with an original jazz / neo-soul band, plus a couple of wedding bands on the side. I also love transcribing and arranging music for solo instruments. (In fact, I spend a lot of my free time doing this, just because I like the challenge of it!)
I have a keen interest in web design and making online videos. At some point in the future, I’d love to design a series of online video courses for musicians - new and experienced both.

Among my academic qualifications, I am a fully qualified teacher, having been awarded an Advanced PGCE (PGDE) in Lifelong Learning, with a subject specialism in teaching music (2014). In addition, I hold a Masters Degree in Music Composition (2011) and a BA in Music and Professional Practice (2010).
I also have an Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child Workforce).

I work primarily in the South Manchester area, teaching out of my home studio and teaching space where I am surrounded by various instruments hanging from the wall, pieces of studio equipment and cups of tea.
Currently, most of my students prefer having face-to-face lessons in my home studio where we have full access to all of my musical equipment, but I am also available to travel to your home if that’s preferred. (This would include a small fee for travel costs, available up to a distance 5 miles of East Didsbury, Manchester).
I also regularly teach online via webcam, and have various resources to better facilitate this, including an iPad with video feed and a second camera placed above my piano.
