About Oisín

I am a GP/family medicine specialist on the Trinity College Dublin Specialist training scheme based in Dublin, Ireland.

I graduated with an honours medical degree from NUIG in 2018.

I’m currently engaged in clinical practice. However, I have a strong interest in research and education and actively seek to pursue this in both a professional and research capacity.

To this end, in 2019 I worked as a clinical tutor and lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. I was involved primarily in the education of final year medical students

This was a full time role that consisted of both curriculum design and delivery
Online learning was a strong component of this as quarantine due to covid 19 first began in Ireland half way through the academic year. As such, all educational delivery and assessment had to be moved online. As a final year lecturer the realisation of this was a core part of my role.

Curriculum delivery included:
- Traditional didactic lecture
- Small group tutorials
- Case based teaching
- Problem-based learning
- Formal assessment and examination including both clinical bedsides and online learning

Curriculum design included:
- Formulating and designing learning outcomes with an emphasis on blooms taxonomy of learning
- Module design
- Writing MCQs
- Scripting online simulated learning platforms

I was awarded an MSc by research in 2021 on the topic of undergraduate medical education.

About the lesson

My lessons are based on the needs needs of the individual student. Your goals and needs will dictate the content and delivery of the sessions.

I utilise a blend of teaching methodologies, including didactic teaching, case-based teaching and memory aides. I am here to answer all questions and make difficult concepts as simple as possible. I like to promote interactivity and discourse in my lessons.

As a practising GP my medical knowledge spans a number of different areas including internal medicine, paediatrics, psychiatry and obs&gynae. I can marry hands-on experience in clinical practice with an intimate working knowledge of undergraduate medical curricula and examinations.

I have been directly involved in writing examination material and conducting in-person examinations for a number of medical Universities in Ireland. I have also been employed to write MCQs for online medical examination platforms.I also assign relevant reading and homework to reinforce learning and provide students with opportunities to apply their knowledge.

A typical lesson lasts about 1-2 hours, and I am flexible in terms of scheduling to accommodate students' needs.

My lessons are intended for undergraduate medical students in their final years of study.

I have a masters degree in research and am also able to provide tutoring on research methods.
