About Joanne
I am a fully qualified teacher with a variety of experience in the educational sector. I studied a PGCE in Secondary Music at Bath Spa University, I then went on to teach Performing Arts and functional skills (maths and English) at Canterbury College, Kent. After 8 years of classroom experience, I decided to leave and pursue a career in tutoring. I have been working self-employed as a private tutor for nearly 3 years now. I predominantly tutor Kent Test, English and maths at KS2/KS3, and GCSE English. I also have experience in adult learning including functional skills. I am currently studying a Masters in English to enhance my skillset even further.

I am a very friendly and patient tutor. I build very good relationships with my students; I like to be flexible and adaptable to their needs. Generally, I will start the lesson with a fun, warm up activity and end the session with a plenary activity that summarises and checks learning. I am good at checking prior learning and building on this. My main focus is catering to the students’ needs and adapting to their learning style. I can plan generalised lessons based around the curriculum; I am good at targeting problem areas and working on these. Or, I can plan based purely on what the student wants and needs to work on. I have a great deal of experience tutoring online and have access to a wealth of engaging resources. I have experience in tutoring all
key stages in English and maths,
particularly GCSE English.
I also have 11+ experience,
and have coached students to help them pass the 11+.
