About Dougal

Hello! My name is Dougal, I'm a guitar teacher here in Perth and specialize in working with beginner musicians. I started playing music from a very young age and have been a professional musician for 4 years. I'm a graduate from WAAPA and have a Cert IV in teacher support. I have 3 years experience teaching children and teens and enjoy getting people engaged in the passion that I love so much. My teaching style is based on engagement. When teaching kids, it is vital to get them engaged and excited to play otherwise they will stop as soon as they leave. My main goal is to get them engaged and excited to play and begin to teach them new things gradually when they feel comfortable. I believe in creating a cool relaxed environment with students where there is no pressure to be perfect, while also sparking a desire to get better.

About the lesson

Guitar playing should be fun and exciting and so I choose to base my lesson around those principles. My lessons keep kids engaged and interested in their music while gradually building their knowledge in both theory and practical playing. I greatly believe in practical hands-on learning. My lessons focus on teaching students the basics of chords, basic theory and improvisation. I work differently with every student to tailor to their goals- whether it be learning a favorite song, getting extra practice for a performance, or just starting music playing. I teach both electric and acoustic guitar and can teach a wide range of genres including: classical, rock, blues, pop, country, jazz. My experience in tutoring is based in beginner guitar teaching, therefore children and beginners will gain more from me. Lessons tend to last from 2-3 hours but can be longer if so wanted. Lessons can be either taught online or face to face. They can be taught at a public space or student's house.
