About Anfas
My aim is to teach chess in a way it doesn't seem like a boring lecture, but more like an entertaining after-school activity. I specialize in teaching complete beginners and intermediates. If you want someone who will make your children love this game, and develop the patience, critical thinking and problem-solving skills that comes with it, then I'm your coach!
Additionally, I have over 11 years of teaching experience and have helped multiple beginners progress from learning chess from scratch to becoming school-level champions within 5–6 months.
If your child is rated between 0 and 1900, is stuck at the same level for a while, or is looking for structured guidance to improve, these classes are for them. I routinely see progress of upto 100+ rating points in my students every month. My speciality is in taking people who haven't learn chess or are at an intermediate level to a prize-winning and FIDE-rated players in less than a year.

My typical session lasts one hour. In the first 20 minutes, I introduce a new concept. In the next 10 minutes, the student practises that concept through puzzles. For the remaining 30 minutes, the student shares their screen, logs into an online chess website, and plays a game against an opponent of a similar rating. During this time, I supervise the game and guide them as they apply what they’ve just learned.
This structure ensures that students learn a concept, practise it, and apply it immediately in a real game, while I correct mistakes and reinforce good habits in real time.
Once every month, I conduct a revision quiz followed by a chess tournament with my other students, which is a very fun evening, and kids love that!
I’ve used this teaching method for over 11 years and have worked with students in the UK, US, UAE, and Singapore, many of whom progressed from learning the names of the pieces to winning school-level chess championships.
Below is my standard three-month curriculum:
Month 1: Fundamentals
Rules, piece movement, check, and checkmate
Basic tactics: forks, pins, hanging pieces
Opening principles (development, centre control, castling)
Basic endgames (king + queen/rook, pawn promotion)
Month 2: Tactics & Strategy
Common tactical patterns and calculation
Simple middlegame planning
King safety and basic attacking ideas
Endgame fundamentals and piece coordination
Month 3: Competition Readiness
Game analysis and mistake correction
Time management and thinking routines
Practical tournament tactics
Regular practice games and mock competitions

I enrolled my 11 year old with Anfas 5 months ago. We had to switch a couple of coaches before we found Anfas. He is the best teacher according to my son. As a parent, I too found Anfas to be very organized and he's got structured curriculum and notes. I highly recommend his classes
Anfas has been teaching my 9 year old daughter for a little over a year now. She always talks about how funny her teacher is. She's always excited to attend her class. Her chess rating has increased by 700 points since Anfas has been teaching her.
