About Mikenzie

Hi! My name is Mikenzie, and I am a passionate 17-year-old piano player and singer who loves helping others grow in confidence through music.

I am the 2026 Cultural Captain at my school and have been singing and playing piano for as long as I can remember and have performed at school assemblies, music nights, theater performances such as at the Talbot Theatre at the Thomas Dixon Centre, and dance showcases in front of large audiences. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I enjoy sharing that passion with my students in a supportive and encouraging environment. I was also awarded the 2025 QUT Dean's Award for Excellence in the Arts at my school, and the subject award for music in both 2024 and 2025, receiving the highest marks in my grade in music class. Because of this, I feel that I am ready to take my passion for music to the next step and use my love for singing and piano to inspire and teach others.

As a tutor, I aim to make lessons fun, comfortable, and personalized to each student’s goals and learning style. I understand that learning music can feel intimidating at first, especially for beginners, so I focus on building confidence while helping students develop strong foundational skills at their own pace.

I work especially well with children and young teenagers at a beginner/intermediate level, creating a positive atmosphere where students feel motivated, comfortable asking questions, and excited to learn. Whether a student wants to learn for fun, improve their skills, or gain confidence performing, I strive to make every lesson enjoyable and rewarding.

I am reliable, motivated, patient, and enthusiastic, and I am committed to helping each student feel proud of their progress while developing a genuine love for music.

About the lesson

I create fun, supportive, and confidence-building lessons that are tailored to each student’s individual goals and experience level. I believe music should feel enjoyable and encouraging, whether a student is learning for fun, building confidence, preparing for performances, or developing strong foundational skills.

My teaching approach focuses on patience, positive encouragement, and making lessons fun and engaging. For singing lessons, I help students improve vocal technique, breathing, emotion, confidence, and stage presence through warm-ups, songs they enjoy, performance practice, and practising with myself.

For piano lessons, I teach fundamentals at a basic level, such as reading music, hand coordination, and technique while also incorporating songs students love to keep lessons motivating and exciting.

Lessons are typically 30–60 minutes depending on the student’s age, level, and goals. I adapt each lesson to suit different learning styles and make sure students feel comfortable asking questions and progressing at their own pace.

Although I am 17 years old, I have been singing and playing piano as long as I can remember and have extensive performance experience through school events, music nights, theatre performances, and dance showcases in front of large audiences. These experiences have helped me develop strong musical confidence, stage presence, and communication skills that I bring into my teaching. I was awarded the 2025 QUT Dean's Award for Excellence in the Arts at my school, and the subject award for music in both 2024 and 2025, receiving the highest marks in my grade in music class.

My lessons are best suited for beginners and early intermediate students, particularly children and young teenagers who are looking to build confidence, develop musical skills, and enjoy learning in a friendly and supportive environment.
