  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Being part of the Air Cadets meant that I had already taught a lot, coupled with the fact that my friends asked for help on their school work all the time, led to the idea of starting a tutoring business. Being relatively young and still being able to easily bond with students, I quickly became someone whom many trusted to come to for help with GCSEs, A-Levels and just schoolwork in general.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

I teach both Mathematics and the Sciences, with a primary focus on GCSE and A-level content. In Maths, I cover everything from algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to more advanced topics like calculus and statistics. In Science, I specialise in Physics and Chemistry, breaking down complex concepts like electricity, atomic structure, forces, and chemical reactions into clear, manageable steps.
What I enjoy most is connecting these topics to real-life scenarios—whether that’s using physics to explain how roller coasters work, or applying maths to budgeting and finance. I find students engage more when they see the relevance of what they’re learning.

With every student, I aim to build not just their academic ability but also their confidence and curiosity. I encourage open discussions and like to ask “why do you think that?” to help them develop independent thinking and problem-solving skills. It's not just about memorising formulas—it's about understanding the 'why' behind the 'what'.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Hmm, in terms of role models, I would say all the seniors in my RAFAC unit, these bunch of people were very good teachers, at any topic that you can think of, their ability to teach to such a high level allowed students to retain knowledge very well, and as a student in their lessons, I wanted to be in their position. Over the years, I climbed up the ranks and taught in a military setting as well as a standard academic setting, hence becoming a tutor and running my own tutoring business!
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being reliable, organised, and genuinely invested in your students’ success sets a great tutor apart. You're not just helping them pass exams—you’re shaping their attitude towards learning for life. A good tutor is also encouraging and motivational. Many students come in lacking confidence, so it’s vital to build them up, celebrate progress, and help them believe in their own ability. Another key quality is patience. Every student learns at their own pace, and it’s important to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes—that’s where real learning happens. Also ensuring that each student understands it in a way that makes sense to them and a good tutor can adapt to these. Being involved with a wide range of students of varying abilities, I can confidently say I am able to cater to many different teaching styles.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I still remember the first time I had to balance a chemical equation in school—I was completely lost. It felt like a weird puzzle with numbers and letters, and I couldn’t make sense of why it even mattered. But then my teacher explained it using the idea of a “chemical scale”—that atoms are like ingredients in a recipe, and the law of conservation of mass means nothing can be lost or created, just rearranged. Suddenly, it made sense. Balancing wasn’t just maths—it was logic, structure, and chemistry all working together.

That moment stuck with me, because it showed how a single shift in perspective can make a topic go from confusing to clear. Now, when I teach balancing equations, I always start with that idea—chemistry is like a story that has to make sense on both sides. I guide students step-by-step, showing them that once they understand the “why,” the “how” becomes much easier. It’s a great example of how confidence builds through understanding—and I love helping students reach that point.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges I faced in science—especially at A-level—was handling the volume of information while truly understanding it. It’s easy to fall into the trap of memorising facts, but I realised that without understanding the concepts, especially in topics like organic chemistry or electricity in physics, it’s hard to apply them in unfamiliar exam questions. In Maths, a challenge I faced early on was making small mistakes in multi-step problems, like dropping a minus sign or misreading the question. It taught me the importance of working systematically and checking carefully, which I now emphasise with my students.

As a tutor, one ongoing challenge is making sure students don’t just aim to “get the right answer” but actually understand why the answer is right. Especially with students who’ve lost confidence, I’ve learned to slow things down, build their foundations, and show them that mistakes are part of the learning process.

These experiences have made me a more empathetic and effective tutor—being quite young, I’ve been in my students’ shoes, and I know how to guide them through the same struggles I faced myself.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

My biggest passion is teaching—especially helping students go from confusion to clarity. There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing a student who once said, “I’m just not good at maths” suddenly solve a problem confidently, or a science student finally grasp a tricky concept like electrolysis or forces.

Within the subjects themselves, I have a real love for problem-solving in maths and the “why” behind science. I enjoy showing students how maths isn't just numbers on a page—it's logical thinking that applies to everything from architecture to finance. In science, I love connecting abstract ideas to real-life phenomena. For example, explaining how balancing equations is like balancing ingredients in cooking always gets a reaction (pun intended!).

Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about personal growth and building things—whether that’s helping a student build confidence, or working on my own tutoring business. But at the heart of it all, my real passion lies in helping people unlock their potential, and teaching is the perfect way for me to do that.
