About Sophia

Hi, I'm Sophia!

I'm a qualified Primary and Special Education teacher with a passion for helping children build confidence and achieve their full potential. I currently work full-time as an intervention teacher in a private school, where I support primary students in literacy and numeracy using evidence-based teaching practices and targeted intervention programs.

Throughout my career, I've worked with students across a wide range of abilities, including those who need additional support, those with diverse learning needs, and students looking to extend themselves academically. My experience has taught me that every child learns differently, which is why I believe tutoring should be personalized to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing students realize they are capable of succeeding. Whether it's mastering a challenging math concept, becoming a more confident reader, or feeling prepared for an upcoming assessment, I love celebrating those moments of growth alongside my students.

My teaching philosophy is centered on creating a calm, supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves. I aim to make learning engaging, enjoyable and achievable while building the skills and confidence students need to become independent learners.

As an educator, I'm committed to continually developing my professional knowledge and staying up to date with current educational research and best practice. This allows me to provide high-quality, evidence-based tutoring that is tailored to each student's goals and learning needs.

I look forward to partnering with families to help students develop the confidence, skills and strategies they need to thrive both in the classroom and beyond.

About the lesson

Every tutoring program begins with getting to know your child as a learner. During the first lesson, I complete an informal assessment to identify strengths, areas for growth, and any learning gaps. This allows me to design lessons that are personalised to your child's individual needs, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Each session is carefully planned and aligned with the Australian Curriculum and, where appropriate, NAPLAN assessment requirements. Lessons are engaging, interactive and evidence-based, with a focus on developing both understanding and confidence. Students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and explain their reasoning, helping them become independent learners rather than simply memorising answers.

Depending on your child's goals, lessons may include explicit teaching of new concepts, guided practice, independent application, revision of previous learning, and targeted activities to strengthen foundational skills. Throughout each session, I use ongoing assessment to monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed to ensure students continue making meaningful gains.

I believe students learn best when they feel supported and successful. My lessons are delivered in a calm, encouraging environment where mistakes are viewed as valuable learning opportunities and effort is celebrated. Building confidence is just as important as improving academic achievement.

Session lengths are tailored to each student's learning needs and attention span. Most lessons range from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, with longer sessions including a short break to help students stay focused and retain new learning. My priority is ensuring every session is productive, engaging and appropriately paced, particularly after a full day at school.

Parents receive regular updates on their child's progress, including the skills being targeted, areas of improvement, and recommendations for supporting learning at home. My goal is to work collaboratively with families to help every student achieve lasting success both in the classroom and beyond.

I honestly cannot recommend Sophia highly enough. When I first reached out to her, I was a second-year pre-service teacher who had failed the LANTITE and was feeling completely overwhelmed. My confidence was at an all-time low, and I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to pass the exam.
