About Xander

I’m Xander. Before I started tutoring, I worked as a journalist with the ABC and Seven West Media, which basically meant learning how to write clearly, ask better questions, and explain things in a way people don’t switch off from. After that, I spent a couple of years traveling through different parts of the world and volunteering wherever I could. Being around so many different people and cultures changed the way I communicate and taught me to be patient, flexible, and genuinely curious about how others think.
In lessons, I try to keep things simple and calm. We talk things through, look at examples, and break tasks down so they stop feeling overwhelming. I’m not interested in making English more complicated than it needs to be. I just want you to understand what you’re doing and feel more confident each week.
I’ve got a Master of Multimedia Journalism and I’m heading back to uni soon to finish my teaching qualification. I work with students of all ages who want to get better at writing, analyzing texts, or just feeling more in control of English.

About the lesson

I keep my tutoring straightforward: clear explanations, practical examples, and honest feedback. My background as a journalist with the ABC and Seven West Media taught me how to break ideas down quickly and communicate them in a way that actually makes sense, and that is the approach I bring to every lesson. I focus on helping students understand how writing and analysis work so they can use those skills confidently on their own.
Most lessons run for about an hour, which gives us enough time to cover new material and work through it properly. I also run longer sessions for senior students who are preparing for exams or major assignments.
I have a Master of Multimedia Journalism and I am returning to university midyear to complete my teaching qualification. I work with primary, secondary, and tertiary students, anyone who wants clearer writing, stronger analysis, and more confidence in English.
