About Paloma
Hello! My name is Paloma, I'm from Granada, Spain and I’m a passionate and experienced educator dedicated to helping students achieve their language-learning goals. I hold a degree in Comparative Literature, as well as two master’s degrees: one in Teacher Training and another in Literary and Theatrical Studies, all from the University of Granada.
I have nearly a decade of teaching experience, offering private lessons in English, Spanish, and guitar since I was 19. I’ve also worked as a cultural journalist for a local newspaper and as a high school teacher in Granada, where I taught Spanish and literature to junniors and seniors.
Living in different countries, including Panama, Mexico, England, and now the United States, has not only enriched my understanding of diverse cultures but also helped me adapt to a wide range of students and learning styles. These experiences have shaped my open-minded approach to teaching and my ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Currently, I’m a Spanish Teaching Assistant at Bucknell University, where I help students improve their language skills and gain a deeper appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures. Let’s work together to make your learning journey both successful and enjoyable!

Teaching Method and Techniques:
My teaching method is dynamic and student-centered, focusing on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. I tailor my lessons to the individual needs of each student, incorporating interactive activities, real-life scenarios, and multimedia resources to make the language come alive. I emphasize both communicative competence and cultural understanding, as I believe language learning is enriched by exploring the traditions, history, and context of the language.
Techniques I use include: Role-playing and conversational practice to build confidence.
Grammar explanations integrated into practical exercises.
Vocabulary-building games to make learning enjoyable and memorable.
Listening and reading comprehension using authentic materials such as songs, articles, and videos.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
It begins with a brief review of previous content, followed by a warm-up activity to engage the student. Next, I introduce new concepts, providing clear explanations and examples. Students then practice the material through guided exercises and real-life applications, such as dialogues or writing tasks. Finally, we end with a summary and a brief reflection on the lesson, setting goals for the next session.
Example structure:
5 minutes: Review and warm-up activity (e.g., a quick Q&A in Spanish).
15 minutes: Introduction of new grammar/vocabulary.
20 minutes: Practical application through speaking or writing exercises.
10 minutes: Wrap-up and feedback.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
My passion for language and culture, combined with my academic background in Comparative Literature and my role as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at Bucknell University, allows me to bring a unique perspective to my teaching. I strive to make every lesson engaging, adapting my approach to different learning styles and ensuring that students feel confident and motivated. Additionally, I focus on creating a comfortable environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn and grow.
My lessons are suitable for a wide range of students:
All levels: From complete beginners to advanced learners.
Ages: Children, teenagers, and adults.
Goals: Conversational Spanish, academic support, exam preparation (DELE, AP Spanish), or professional/business Spanish.
Specificities: Tailored lessons for travelers, heritage speakers, or those with specific cultural or academic interests.
