About Poppy

I am a current MSc psychology student, passionate about developmental psychology and the neuroscience behind this. I want to begin teaching as a way of furthering my transferable skills for my future career. Tutoring was incredibly beneficial to me in gaining my GCSEs and A levels. I remember how challenging they were at times and what helped me the most in my revision and tutoring. Developing self-confidence in academics is the most important thing for success and I aim to inspire this in my students.

About the lesson

I like to primarily utilise the past practice questions available to students, and then go through the students' answers to these to understand their strong topics and weaker ones. These past paper questions are critical as they allow me to spot consistent issues with answering style and what the student would most benefit from in line with the examination board marking criteria. A typical lesson would be 1 hour as I feel longer than that focus begins to be lost and information is not absorbed as effectively. However, closer to exam time longer sessions may be beneficial depending on the students' needs. I have A levels in biology, psychology and chemistry as well as a BSc in medical sciences specialising in neuroscience. It took me a lot of hard work to get to where I am and I can still remember what it was like to be a GCSE student, I had my fair share of private tutoring myself. Everyone needs some extra help from time to time and I want my students to know that no question is too silly and that if they try hard they will do well. My lessons are for GCSE level, but I am open to some A level tutoring.
