About Miles
Australian classical guitarist and Miles Johnston believes that musical performances create an environment offering a shared experience. Equally committed to his work as a soloist and in chamber musician, Miles crisscrosses the standard classical guitar canon with music from Australia, Spain, Latin America, and jazz-influenced works.
Miles gained a reputation across his home country of Australia by winning several of the country’s largest competitions, establishing himself as one of Australia’s finest young concert artists. Highlights include First Place at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival Solo Artist and first prize winner in two nation-wide multi-instrumental competitions hosted by the Melbourne Recital Centre: the Bach Competition and the Great Romantics Competition. His consequent concert at the Peninsula Summer Music Festival was reviewed by Margaret Arnold of Classic Melbourne, stating: “The virtuosic and dramatic finish left us in no doubt about his technical and musical skill.”
Miles recently completed his Master of Music degree, studying under Ms. Sharon Isbin at The Juilliard School. During his studies, he developed his passion for community engagement through the McCabe Guitar Fellowship, where he introduced classical guitar to young audiences and educators, and the Gluck Community Service Fellowship, where he performed for patients in hospitals, nursing homes and alternative care facilities.

I specialize in classical and jazz music but have been teaching for over 5 years of every style.
