About Sidney
I am a graduate of National Taiwan Normal University (臺灣師範大學), one of Taiwan's leading institutions for teacher education, and I bring 5 years of professional middle school teaching experience to every lesson. Beyond classroom teaching, I also spent four years as an Education Technology Director at a school in Taiwan, where I trained staff and managed large-scale programs — experience that taught me how to explain things clearly and adapt to different learning styles.
I recently completed my Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am now based in the United States. I'm passionate about helping students build genuine confidence in Traditional Chinese, whether you're a complete beginner, a heritage speaker, or someone preparing for life, work, or travel in a Chinese-speaking environment. My lessons focus on Traditional Chinese (繁體字), especially helpful for learners interested in Taiwan, Hong Kong, or classical/cultural Chinese contexts. As a former middle school teacher in Taiwan with 5 years of classroom experience, I bring a structured, methodical approach to teaching — breaking down characters, grammar, and pronunciation step by step so you build a solid foundation rather than just memorizing.
A typical week includes two lessons, each building on the previous one, plus homework assignments to reinforce vocabulary, reading, and writing practice between sessions. This consistent rhythm helps students retain what they learn and steadily improve their reading, writing, and conversational skills.
My lessons are suitable for beginners who want to start with Traditional Chinese characters, heritage learners reconnecting with their family's language, or anyone preparing to live, work, or travel in Taiwan.
