About Claire
I am a second-year graduate student who is curious, passionate about learning, and excited about my subject and the students I teach. With six years of teaching experience, I can provide the skills, information, and curriculum needed to set you up for academic success. I have worked as an academic tutor at a university, a private tutor for homeschooled students, and a classroom instructor in a private school.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and exploring the outdoors. I am an avid traveler and am currently living abroad while finishing my graduate degree. As I am British literature enthusiast, you can often find me reading Tolkien, Lewis, Greene, or Austen. My interests also include mythology, poetry, and historical fiction.

I value consistency and structure in my lessons, tempered with flexibility and personal connection. I hope to engage my students' imaginations, enabling them to take ownership over what they learn.
Typical lesson plans include begin with questions to assess a student's understanding of the material, further lecture or explanation on my part, and a exercise to measure the student's comprehension. In a larger classroom, I often employ group work and creative assignments during the second half of the lesson. In individual work, I like to make sure the student has plenty of time to ask questions, ideally leaving them with the tools to work efficiently on their own when not in a lesson. In my lessons, I hope to instill a desire for critical thought and serious inquiry.
Most of my teaching experience lies in secondary education, grades 9-12, but I have tutored younger students in reading and writing as well.Over the years, I have taught seminars in writing essentials, proofreading and editing, essay composition, American Literature, British Literature, and literature and worldview studies.
I also specialize in aiding students in the preparation of college applications. In recent years, I have developed lessons on how to smooth out the application process, including how to write and edit college essays, resume composition, general interview skills, and public speaking essentials. I am passionate about providing my students with the excellent written and oral communication skills they will need for the next stage of their academic journey.
