About Philip
My motivation to teach comes from a lifetime of interest in science and mathematics, and communicating the power and beauty of these subjects to those who would like to understand them.
I studied both mathematics and science at university and spent a decade and a half applying the skills of a mathematical scientist in a national statistical office. During this journey, I discovered that scientific knowledge is increasingly phrased in mathematical terms, and the mastery of high school and higher mathematics opens doors into the understanding of scientific ideas in a way that can't be overstated.

Do you want to understand mathematics or science but need some one-on-one tutoring?
Every STEM subject has a core of basic processes and insights that underpin the subject as a whole. I believe in explicitly modelling to students how to work through exercises that will build up their conceptual understanding, before branching out into problem solving strategies.
I teach using the flipped-classroom method, where students watch learning materials outside the session and attempt to work problems, and we work on the difficulties you encounter in the problem-solving.
I can provide tutoring in highschool mathematics and science, and in some first or second year mathematics subjects which can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
I am a Science graduate of a good university with First Class Honours degree and 15 years of industry experience as a statistician. I am almost finished a Master of Secondary Teaching and am accredited to teach all high school mathematics and science subjects.
