About Nigel
I am a Drama Teacher with experience in theatrical productions from an actor's perspective, a directors perspective as well as technical aspects of theatrical design and production. I have worked with community theatres (namely The Newcastle Repertory Theatre, Newcastle Theatre Company, Civic Theatre, and Playhouse) as well as professional theatre companies (mainly Bard on the Beach, and Maroubra Players). I also have experience in front of the camera (television commercials and extra roles in films) as well as behind the camera (choreography and lighting design in several UTS student films).
I am a graduate of the Sydney Stage Combat School under Kyle Rowling (now the Action Actors Academy). I have taught Drama in High Schools from Year 7 through to HSC level.

As a theatrical actor and director, my main approach to students is giving them a fundamental grounding in traditional methodology. I am familiar with the works of Stanislavski as well a Grotowski and Arteau. My area of interest centres around Physical Theatre, namely Stage Combat. Utilising the components of conflict in textual realisation enables an actor/student to further develop an awareness of their own physical limitations when creating a performance piece. Additionally, understanding the hidden text when analysing scripts is part of my teaching practice.
