My teaching approach is flexible, dialogic and enjoyable. I want to help YOU learn what YOU want/need to know at YOUR pace. I want to walk alongside you as we discover and resolve any barriers to your confidence and competence.
During my second undergraduate year, I was recruited to the PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) program and, for three years, I facilitated structured study sessions in course content and academic reading/writing skills. The Peer Work training I received in this role informs my relaxed and collaborative teaching style. Within my University, I facilitated tutorials and workshops in various schools, including the School for Humanities & Communication Arts and the School of Social Sciences. Outside of Uni, I worked as a freelance writing coach (Duke of Edinburgh Awards, University Co-op Bookshop) and as Book Review Editor for "The Humour Studies Digest" (University of Sydney, Australasian Humour Studies Network).
I have Australian university qualifications in TESOL & Applied Linguistics (Graduate Certificate) and English (Bachelor of Arts). I did my Masters of Research & four years of a PhD at the Writing & Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University. My research focused on 20th Century Women's Literature, English Literature, Feminist Criticism and Humour Studies/Comic Theory.
I like to get to know my students so that I can offer personalized mentoring and targeted support. I view my students as equals and wish to encourage their individual academic or creative voice to emerge. As a tutor, I always aim to be culturally sensitive, neuroinclusive and LGBTQIA+ friendly. As a teacher and a writer, I continue to learn from my interactions with my students.
