About Sonia
I am currently a primary school teacher. I am on my fourth year of teaching. Before I began teaching, I worked at school as a SSO. I am a passionate and dedicated teacher who strives to deliver meaningful content to students. I have a commitment to creating a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum that meets education requirements and standards. I will bring with me the dedication, skill, and desire to positively impact the lives of every individual. I use Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) to teach and review concepts in literacy and numeracy. Learning intentions are set for all lessons and students are aware of and can articulate the success criteria for tasks. Using EDI to teach Multisensory structured language and structured literacy has improved student engagement; formative and summative assessments indicate progress in their knowledge and skills. I use modelled writing/reading and close reading to explicitly teach grammar, focussing on functional grammar and the features of a range of texts. These strategies support my students to connect concepts to texts and understand the use of language for a range of purposes.
