About Benjamin
I am a graduating senior at American University with a minor in Spanish and Spanish Translation Certificate. Before the pandemic, I tutored English Reading to elementary school students in DC who tested behind the grade level standard. When I was in Spain, I helped revise graduate school applications and assisted a Spanish student in her applications to American colleges; she is now a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

When I was a reading tutor, I followed a plan with my students that focused on gradual accumulation of specific sounds and vocabulary to transition into more complex readings. I believe the building blocks to fluency are vocabulary and grammar. However, I would stress the importance of vocabulary, as there is no greater confidence boost than having the right word for any given situation. Once one understands the meaning and sounds of the vocabulary, the grammar is almost a breeze.
