About Freya
I am a guitar tutor with over 4 years of teaching experience. I work with students of all levels, from beginners learning their first chords to intermediate players looking to refine their skills. I have successfully taught around 150 students. Many of my students have learned to play their favorite songs, performed at school events, and built the confidence to play in front of others. Some have even started writing their own music. My teaching philosophy is centered on real-life application, integrity, flexibility, problem-solving, and compassion. I believe that learning guitar should be practical and enjoyable. I use real-world examples to explain techniques and concepts. I am honest about progress and set realistic goals. I adapt my lessons to each student's pace and interests. I teach problem-solving skills so students can learn independently. I focus on building strong technique through chords, strumming, fingerpicking, and scales. I also teach music theory, ear training, rhythm, and songwriting. I encourage creativity and help students play the music they love. I am patient and supportive. I celebrate every achievement and guide students through challenges with kindness. I am proud of the progress and confidence my students develop. My goal is to inspire a lasting love for guitar.

My teaching approach for guitar is built on five core values: real-life examples and case studies, integrity, flexibility, problem-solving, and compassion. I believe guitar is an incredibly versatile and rewarding instrument that can bring joy to players of all ages. My goal is to help students develop strong technique, musical understanding, and the confidence to play for themselves or others. Real-life examples and case studies are central to my lessons. I do not teach in a bubble. I show students how professional guitarists approach rhythm, phrasing, and tone. I use recordings and videos to demonstrate different playing styles. I also share stories from my own journey and from past students to make concepts more relatable. When a student struggles with a chord change or strumming pattern, I refer to similar cases and show how others worked through it. This makes learning practical and less intimidating. Integrity is the foundation of my teaching. I am honest about progress. I give clear, constructive feedback and never inflate abilities. I set realistic expectations and explain the purpose behind every exercise. This builds trust and keeps the learning process transparent. Flexibility ensures I adapt to each student's pace, goals, and learning style. Some students want to play classical guitar. Others want to learn pop songs, rock riffs, or fingerstyle. Some learn fast while others need more time. I adjust my materials, methods, and lesson structure to fit each individual. Problem-solving is a key skill I teach. I help students break down difficult passages, identify weak spots, and find effective practice strategies. I teach them how to analyze their playing and make corrections independently. This builds resilience and self-reliance. Compassion is at the heart of my teaching. I understand that learning guitar can be frustrating. Fingers hurt, chords feel awkward, and progress can seem slow. I am patient and supportive. I celebrate every small win and never make students feel bad about mistakes.
My methodology covers a comprehensive range of guitar subjects. Technique is a primary focus. I teach proper posture, hand position, pick grip, and fingerpicking. I cover strumming patterns, chord transitions, and scales. I use exercises to build strength, speed, and coordination. Music theory is woven into lessons. I teach note reading, chord construction, scales, and key signatures. I show how theory applies directly to the music they play. This helps students learn faster and understand what they are playing. Ear training is included to develop listening skills. I use interval recognition, chord identification, and rhythm exercises to build musical awareness. Repertoire is selected to match each student's taste. I cover pop, rock, blues, folk, classical, and fingerstyle. I teach phrasing, dynamics, and expression to make playing musical.
Improvisation and songwriting are encouraged. I teach scales and chord progressions to help students create their own solos and songs. Rhythm and timing are always addressed. I use metronome work and backing tracks to develop solid timing. Sight-reading is covered for students who want to read notation. Performance preparation is another subject. I help students build confidence and stage presence. Each lesson follows a clear structure. We start with warm-ups and technical exercises. Then we work on chords, scales, or theory. The main part focuses on repertoire and applying techniques. I end with a review and practice plan. I use recordings for self-assessment and adjust goals regularly. My aim is to develop guitarists who are skilled, creative, and confident. I want my students to enjoy playing and continue learning on their own.
