About Ben

I'm a strategy and finance professional with over a decade of experience across consulting, government, and private sector organisations in Australia and the UK. My career has involved complex problem solving, clear communication, and breaking down difficult concepts for a wide range of audiences -- skills that translate directly into good teaching.

Alongside my professional career, I completed a Mathematics degree with the Open University. I am also half-Italian, lived in Italy for four years, and spent that time immersed in music study and performance -- experiences that inform both my teaching and my understanding of language and culture in a way that goes well beyond the classroom.

I have been teaching students since I was 19, which means I bring over a decade of hands-on tutoring experience to every session. That breadth of experience -- spanning different subjects, ages, backgrounds, and learning styles -- has made me a genuinely flexible and adaptable teacher. I am not wedded to one approach. If the conventional explanation is not landing, I will find another way in, often from an unexpected angle, until something clicks.

I came to several of my own areas of expertise the long way round -- not through natural talent, but through curiosity and persistence. That background gives me real empathy for students who find a subject difficult, and a deep conviction that the right explanation at the right time can change everything.

About the lesson

I'm half-Italian and spent four years living and studying in Italy, which means my Italian isn't textbook -- it's the real thing. I understand how the language actually sounds and flows in everyday life, from casual conversation to professional and cultural contexts, and I bring that natural fluency into every lesson.

My approach focuses on getting students speaking and understanding as quickly as possible. Grammar matters, but it should serve communication, not get in the way of it. Whether you're a complete beginner who wants to travel to Italy with confidence, someone building towards conversational fluency, or a professional who needs Italian for business, I tailor every session to what you actually want to achieve.

Lessons are one hour via video call, relaxed in tone, and structured around your goals. I find that progress comes fastest when students are engaged and enjoying themselves -- so expect real conversation, cultural context, and plenty of encouragement alongside the fundamentals.
I teach complete beginners, conversational and intermediate learners, business Italian, and Italian for travel.
