About Susan

I hold a B.S. from Cornell University and a JD from Harvard Law School. I was sworn into the CA Bar Association in 2004. In 2008 I left legal practice to start teaching pre-law classes. I also worked for a well-known large test-prep company, where I taught graduate entrance exams and helped develop a Bar Exam Test Prep Program. In 2012 I left the test prep company to develop my own LSAT and Bar Exam tutoring service. I took this step because I had come to disagree with the "standard" practice of test prep companies offering only a one-size-fits-all test prep method. Instead, I believe that, because every student learns differently and has different needs, a more personalized approach is needed. Since 2012 I have been tutoring students preparing for the LSAT, MPRE, Bar Exam and studying for their core-ABA-required Law School courses. I work with all students, but specialize in working with re-testers, high-scorers and students with unique needs. I really enjoy the challenge of designing programs that require me to think “outside the box”, and the satisfaction that comes with helping struggling students make big breakthroughs. Working for myself allows me to charge competitive prices for my services, work with books/materials that best suit a student (often ones they already have) and have more control over how many students I work with at any given time (which allows me to give each student plenty of "outside" time to provide personal support).

About the lesson

I strive to give every student a personal touch and an excellent experience. Every student is unique and therefore I use a variety of teaching methods to ensure I am best meeting the needs of each student. I believe that the best (and least expensive) form of advertising is to have satisfied clients, and therefore by serving my students' best interests, I am also furthering my own business interests (as well as my own work satisfaction). I do my best to keep the tutoring sessions light, informal, and even fun (yes-it can be fun at times-I promise). I believe studying difficult subjects is stressful enough, so I do what I can to help alleviate the stress and keep tasks manageable. My first objective is to gain (and keep) a student's trust and make sure that he/she is confident that I am focused squarely on his/her success. While I cannot reasonably provide any guarantees of a particular result, I take my obligations to every student very seriously and personally (I have not slept the night before any Bar Exam or LSAT in over a decade!). My hope is that this allows every student to let me worry about what is needed to get them to their goals, while they focus on the material in front of them. Ideally, each of my students should feel comfortable focusing solely on fulfilling the assignments given between sessions, and know that those assignments are being designed to ensure success. I truly love tutoring and I believe every student who has worked with me comes to understand how committed I am to giving 100% every time. I take pride in the fact that more than 70% of my business comes from referrals. To me, this is the best measure of my clients’ satisfaction with my services.
