About Sasikala

Sasikala Rajeswaran was born in Calcutta and then shifted to Chennai. Her formative years were spent in both these places where she did her schooling and graduate studies. This gave her exposure to three languages specifically, Bengali, Sanskrit and Tamil. Tamil was her first language up to graduation. Her interest in languages made her also acquire a rudimentary knowledge of German.
The world of Calcutta introduced her to Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali Khayals which she plays on the Hawaian guitar, her teacher then being Guru Nalini Debdutt. Chennai exposed her to the world of Carnatic music which she has learnt and practised for over a couple of decades, her last teacher who looked upom her as her protégé, was Guru Karpagam. She is presently engaged in learning Veena from Shobhana and Hindustani music from Guru Nihaarika Sinha. She also plays the keyboard. She is an avid yoga practitioner trained by the Madras Sanskrit College.
Professionally she is a graphic artist and was the Senior Associate Editor, Economic Research India Limited and runs an Architecture and Design Online Journal, with the other Director Harish Rao, a Journal that interfaces with an extensive network that stretches globally.
As regards teaching Tamil Communication Skills, she says it is a commitment to preserve the memory of her mother Seethalaksmi Rajeswaran who was a Tamil Pandit and died young.

About the lesson

The beginning level i once a week, for one hour.
The students are taught basic tamil script, 2-3-4 letter words to begin. They are also introduced to speaking the basic tamil words and small sentences used in everyday life.
