Before session number one, the student will get asked why they joined tutoring. I, as the tutor, will personalize each lesson focus on what is necessary and appropriate based off of their answer. The way I see it, tutoring is supposed to give you support in the subjects you struggle with. Tutoring should be an emotionally safe place in order to see the progress from the student. The student needs to feel comfortable enough to ask for the help that is needed. This is what I will strive towards with every session and every student. Once a nice flow has been created, during a session, I will personalize each time to fit the student’s needs. For an example, if help is needed with a specific homework assignment, I would love to help.
