About Annalina

I believe that a key element in the foreign language classroom is keeping the students motivated. My personal style of teaching brings enthusiasm, cultural elements, and technology into the classroom to increase learning motivation. I teach with a contagious smile and open personality that helps me to interact with my students as I guide them through their learning process. Teaching French language enables me to draw upon my own culture and personal experience as a foreign language learner as I teach my students to effectively communicate with me in my own language and, perhaps more importantly, to gain an appreciation for another language and culture.
My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students toward a level of independence where they develop a desire to learn and think for themselves.

About the lesson

My name is Annalina Vaira, I was born in Italy and I studied à l'université de Reims -France where I completed my master degree in French and Translation studies. I live in United States of America where I teach currently at Penn State University in York.
I speak 4 languages Italian,English French and Spanish. I am very knowledgeable of the French language and I am enthusiastic about teaching French culture. My background is in translation and for that reason I tend to emphasize the written aspect of the language and the oral part. I involve my students to complete grammar exercises at home so that they’re better prepared to practice that grammar in my class orally (conversing, answering and asking questions). I work with online exercises that are graded automatically and provide useful feedback to students when they make mistakes. Students need to drill and practice in order to learn another language and most of that should be studied and completed outside class time. I would also suggest more variety in classroom activities and include visual images when relevant. When correcting students, it’s always a good idea to be encouraging and do it in a more positive tone. I always ask the student to take a look at the phrase, try and understand what is wrong and see if he/she is able to make the correction on his own. Other students could also participate. When students figure out their mistakes they will remember them, they will have learnt.
