  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always enjoyed teaching. It came as a hobby back in 2016. My co-workers wanted to develop better English skills. They asked for oral English lessons. Back then it was required to communicate with clients. Therefore the help offered turned into a job. It became apparent that teaching would be my full time field. Since the beginning, I have tutored more than 10 000 lessons, and taught in various schools and institutions.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English, oral, written and exam preparation. Tests such as IELTS, TOEFL and A2 Key. The students are from backgrounds, varying from China to Australia. There are many new students who take English classes because they want to improve their spoken English skills. Those lessons take a practical approach because the content involves answering a series of relevant questions about daily life and work.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I think it was the lack of good teachers that inspired me. Growing up there was no fun, engaging teacher with a passion for his or her work. I wanted to enjoy speaking more, listening to comprehension and develop a creative sense of academics but I was not able. The role model I hold in mind is more a collective group of inspiring people. They encourage and develop learning in academics and entertainment.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Listen, most students want a teacher who can listen and help them improve. Education is not one-way. The student educates the teacher, and the teacher educates the student. More often than not, a learner is able to improve their English skills better if the teacher teaches them in the style that suits the student. In this case, the teacher takes the role of a "learning partner", together they can improve together.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Story title: Getting frustrated with students for the wrong reasons. Description: Years ago I started my journey at an English Language school. The learners were ESL (English as a Second Language). Many of them had no experience with English before they attended the course. I went there as a new teacher, unknowingly, studies of learning methods would not work. Why? I will tell you, because the students just wanted to have FUN and ENJOY learning English. They had no interest in methodical learning, they just wanted to have fun. Lesson of the story: Language should not be about strict learning, in contrast, language is about breaking barriers with people who share common interests and want to have fun! In reality, no-one wants to learn a language for forced reasons, students want to express themselves and share their interests and daily life experiences.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Recently, it is more enjoyable to teach English to all levels and age groups. I do have difficulty being self-employed and maintaining financial independency. No-matter how much love-of-a-language promotes you to take steps, it is the other person who inevitably decides your partial fate. Therefore I am grateful to the students who have supported me over years, some students have been with me for 3 years or more, and I thank them!
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I enjoy teaching and English Speaking, and Oral English. Most of my students come to me because they want to practice speaking. They are educated in the fundamental principles of English, mainly grammar and want to improve their spoken English. I teach kids and adults, so both come naturally. I do enjoy entertaining students, making English lessons fun, and being humorous. This helps promote lesson passion and all-round teaching.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

Learning is not linear. It improves every time you take a lesson! With more practice one can master the English language. There is nothing unattainable. All students are encouraged to take lessons till they feel they have mastered the English language. I think every student can benefit from lessons with me because I focus my time and energy on improving their English. It's free to take a trial, so book a lesson 25-minutes, at no charge.
