About Ben
My journey in music began at the age of 12. I began by learning rock & funk guitar. Since then I have played music in many styles (funk, rock, metal, pop, indie, classical) and on a variety of instruments (guitar, bass, vocals, drums, and keyboard). I studied to Grade 8 Electric Guitar in the Rockschool system, as well as Grade 5 Music Theory and Grade 8 Voice in the ABRSM system. My focus has been more on application than certification and these applications have been in studio sessions, solo and band performances at theatres, music venues, and weddings, and also private tutoring.

The lessons I provide are one hour in length. The general structure begins with 5-10 minutes of warming up and going over the material of the previous lesson and any homework. This is followed by 40 minutes of new material. The final 10 minutes will combine new material with what has been previously learnt, answer any questions the student may have such as requests for songs/techniques to learn, and outline practice material and homework to be completed before the next lesson. Everyone has their own reasons to learn guitar and their own goals. Due to this I endeavour to keep the topics of lessons somewhat collaborative, whilst keeping a certain structure in place to ensure proper development and a broad music-theoretic understanding.
