About Xiran
Hello~ My name is Xiran, and I am currently an A-level student at the Henrietta Barnett School studying Maths, History, Economics and French. At GCSE level I have achieved all A*s, including 9s in maths and English. I have worked in 3 different tuition centres previously, and have also done 1 to 1 private tutoring with 11+ kids. I am very passionate about teaching, and my goal is to help students who feel that they are struggling at school to develop skills and gain confidence (and enjoy learning as much as I do!), as well as to challenge students who feel that school isn't stretching them to their full potential (as I felt back in primary school myself). A fun fact about me is that for my own 11+, I have sat almost 20 different entrance exams for both independent and grammar schools, including the CSSE, Kent test, Nonsuch High school for girls, NLCS, St. Paul's Girl's school, City of London school for Girls, Benenden and of course, my own school Henrietta Barnett. From this, I have gained crucial experience in tackling 11+ exams, in addition to the skills I gained from my previous tutoring work.

I am a very flexible tutor, and I like to adapt my teaching style to each student so that they find it easier and more enjoyable to learn. In lessons, I can go through student-requested topics with them, and help them understand what they have been struggling at school with, or I can also teach new topics to students who are eager for more challenge and want to be ahead of their classmates - I am fully at their disposal! Ultimately, I wish for my students to develop a new way of effective learning for themselves (alas, one cannot have a tutor forever), so I will be frequently asking students "What do you think?" and "How would you approach this question, based on the example given?" to encourage them to think independently instead of spoon-feeding them content. And yes, I will give students homework each week, which I will mark and go through with them in the next lesson - this is a great way to consolidate knowledge and for me to know that they have been paying attention in lessons :D Typically, I offer one hour lessons, however, I am more than happy to do two hours if the student has a need for them (e.g. near 11+ exam dates, preparing for upcoming tests etc.). I also understand that everyone has busy schedules, so lesson times can be flexible or fixed, depending on what suits both of us.
