About Shawn

I am a tennis coach that started coaching back in 2005 while on a scholarship at Howard University. After coaching at John McEnroe Academy in NYC for years then became coach of the year twice at university level. I moved to Sydney 8 years ago to see what tennis was like on this side of the world. Now I am taking in Melbourne with not only private lessons but various tennis events that I have successfully run before. Melbourne show me what you got.

About the lesson

I have been told I have the gift of gab and connecting with people no matter the skill level or age. And with that comes trust to help you get to a level you always wanted. Come ready to be Shawn fit and to be taught the right way not the quick way. My price reflects the quality always remember that in tennis lessons.

Perfect! I highly recommend Shawn. I started from zero, but from lesson one he made me feel comfortable, confident and able to learn. By my second, I was practising forehand and backhand and returning most balls. I’d never hit a tennis ball before, so this progress means so much. Patient, technical, encouraging and gifted. At 38, I’m finally doing something I’ve dreamed of for years. Thank you, Shawn .

Having returned to tennis after a 20 year break, I needed to re-learn (and regain confidence in) my strokes. Shawn has a knack for honing in on your strengths, weaknesses and gives you the confidence to re-build and enhance your skills. My lessons, and the catchy tunes (usually 90’s r&b), are the highlight of my week and reinvigorated my love of the game

I couldn’t recommend Shawn as a tennis coach more highly. He is incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging with a great ability to explain technique in a way that is easy to understand and apply.

What I particularly value is that he will hold you to a standard that he knows your are capable of, while having the patience to let any internal battles play themselves out on the court. He knows when to push, when to give you space to work through something, and how to bring you back to your game without taking the enjoyment out of it.

Every lesson is fun and tailored to the player and what you need on that particular day.

A fantastic coach who genuinely understands the individual player in front of him. Highly recommend.

I cannot recommend Shawn highly enough. He strikes the perfect balance on the court: he takes the sport seriously, but he absolutely won't let you take yourself too seriously. This makes every lesson incredibly fun and the right level of tough. Beyond the great atmosphere, he is excellent at tailoring the sessions to your skill, so you are always challenged but never overwhelmed. If you want to improve your game and have a laugh while doing it, he is the coach to see.
