About Azure

I am a civil engineering professional and an English teacher. I have a strong interest in both engineering and education. My background in civil engineering has given me practical knowledge of construction, structural design, materials, and project management.
As an English teacher, I enjoy helping students improve their communication skills, vocabulary, grammar, and confidence in speaking English. I believe English is an important skill for civil engineers because it helps them communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and professionals from different countries.

My goal is to combine my engineering knowledge with my teaching skills to help students develop both technical and English communication abilities. I am passionate about learning, teaching, and supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals.

About the lesson

This class usually covers two parts: Writing well and Speaking/Communicating well.

Part 1: English Composition
How to write clearly and effectively

Lesson 1: The Writing Process
Brainstorm → Draft → Revise → Edit → Publish
Goal: Writing is not one-and-done. Good writing is rewritten.

Lesson 2: Paragraph & Essay Structure
• Intro: Hook + Thesis Statement
• Body: Topic sentence + Evidence + Explanation
• Conclusion: Restate thesis + Closing thought
• Rule: 1 paragraph = 1 main idea

Lesson 3: Types of Composition
1. Narrative – tell a story
2. Descriptive – paint a picture with words
3. Expository – explain/inform
4. Persuasive/Argumentative – convince with evidence

Lesson 4: Grammar & Style Essentials
• Sentence variety, active voice vs passive voice
• Word choice, avoiding repetition
• Punctuation, subject-verb agreement
• Tone and formality

Lesson 5: Research & Citations
How to use sources, paraphrase, and avoid plagiarism. APA/MLA basics.

Part 2: Communication
How to speak and interact effectively

Lesson 6: Principles of Communication
• Sender → Message → Channel → Receiver → Feedback
• Barriers: language, culture, noise, emotions

Lesson 7: Verbal vs Non-Verbal Communication
Tone, body language, eye contact, listening skills. 70% of communication is non-verbal!

Lesson 8: Audience & Purpose
Change how you write/speak depending on who you’re talking to.
Email to professor ≠ text to friend

Lesson 9: Presentations & Public Speaking
Structure: Intro-Body-Conclusion. Use stories, visuals, and practice.
Tips: Pause, breathe, make eye contact.

Lesson 10: Professional Communication
Emails, resumes, cover letters, meetings. Be clear, polite, and concise.
