About Amos
I've been privately tutoring HSC students since 2020. Prior to working as a freelance tutor, I was employed as an in-home tutor for a tutoring agency in Hornsby, and was also engaged in a tutoring program run by my university wherein I tutored high-school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I also work with tertiary students. I'm quite familiar with the barriers chemistry students frequently find themselves hitting, and I prioritize spending time discussing and analyzing the relevant concepts at a fundamental level before building skills through practice problems. I try to keep the atmosphere relaxed, as I believe that the best learning occurs when students feel listened to and are able to openly express their qualms and queries. I work with a limited number of students concurrently, as tutoring is something I do for my own fulfillment rather than as a monetary necessity. My scientific passions lie in organic and environmental chemistry, while my other hobbies include athletics and theatre.

I strive to empower students to grapple with concepts independently: breaking down the relevant skills and tools required to approach a wide variety of questions in a dynamic manner. I do this by treating chemistry as a language used to describe real and tangible processes - a way of viewing the world - rather than as an abstract academic hurdle to be overcome. My main focus is to develop the toolboxes that students use to approach problems, making them more versatile thinkers. This allows students to deal with a broad variety of complex chemical problems in a manner that they genuinely understand rather than merely regurgitating curriculum dot points.

Perfect! Amos cut through the formulas for my son and because he was young, it made it more comfortable for my son to learn from him
Perfect! Really puts effort into making sure that the tutor sessions help you. e.g. allowing a very open conversation (can tell him if you want more advanced, need a simpler explanation or don't understand)
Perfect! Amos is a friendly and knowledgeable teacher.

I found Amos to be one of the most helpful and understanding teachers for my HSC chemistry course and made it possible for me to understand complex ideas and problems through consistent aid and motivation. Through direct application of Chemical ideas in going through Past papers and hsc questions, Amos was able to break down the course which i really struggled to find motivation in doing and studying for. I am so appreciative for Amos teaching style which really worked for me and he always encouraged i send through any questions I had when doing my own independent study and really made the course and content actually feel possible to understand :)
Amos is a great tutor, he’s taught me chemistry throughout the hsc course. He makes topics easy to understand and clearly explains each problem. He is very understanding as a person and listens to each question thoroughly and addresses the issue in a detailed manner. He teaches in a casual way, making it easier to communicate issues. He also helps with managing your studies and can make studying for chemistry more effective. I highly recommend Amos as a tutor :)
