About Feyi
Hi, I’m Feyi! I’m a passionate, reliable tutor with a love for helping students not only understand what they’re learning—but feel good about learning it. I’m currently attending one of Canada’s top 4 universities, and I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in high school, so I know firsthand how challenging academic life can be. What sets me apart isn’t just my academic background—it’s the wide range of leadership, mentorship, and volunteer experiences that have shaped how I support others. I’ve mentored kids through BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters, led equity and mental health workshops through jack.org, and created inclusive programming as a founding member of my school’s Black Students Association. I’ve also been part of the Edmonton Public Schools Student Senate, helped plan school events on Graduation Council, and worked with Students for the Community—volunteering at soup kitchens, delivering Valentine’s care packages, and planning holiday events for kids at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. On top of that, I’ve volunteered with the Edmonton Public Library (EPL) and completed a professional internship at BioNeutra, a nutrition-based company, which strengthened both my organizational skills and my understanding of science in real-world settings. Balancing all of this alongside school has taught me time management, adaptability, leadership, and patience—skills I bring to every tutoring session. I know how it feels to be overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck, and I always meet students with kindness, structure, and encouragement. Whether your child needs help with science, nutrition, or study skills, I’m here to help them build confidence, stay organized, and reach their full potential.

My Approach as a Tutor
Teaching Methodology and Techniques:
My tutoring approach focuses on clarity, structure, and encouragement. I specialize in breaking down tricky concepts—especially in science, biology, and nutrition—into easy-to-understand lessons. I use visuals, real-life examples, and memory strategies to help students truly grasp what they’re learning, not just memorize it for a test.
Thanks to my work as a mentor with BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters, I bring a calm, positive, and patient energy to every session. I know how to build trust and confidence, especially with students who might feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure of themselves academically.
⸻
A Typical Lesson Plan Includes:
1. Check-in: A short conversation to see how the student is feeling.
2. Goal setting: We set 1–2 goals for the session (e.g., mastering a topic or preparing for a quiz).
3. Core instruction: I explain the lesson in steps, using diagrams, analogies, or examples.
4. Guided practice: We work through exercises together to reinforce the topic.
5. Retention tools: I leave students with summary notes or tricks to help them remember key info.
6. Wrap-up: A short recap and plan for the next session to keep progress consistent.
⸻
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
• I blend strong academic experience (IB, top Canadian university, and science coursework) with real-life mentoring through BCBigs.
• I’ve worked closely with children and teens from a variety of learning backgrounds, helping them grow in both academics and confidence.
• I focus on long-term skills like study habits, self-motivation, and independent thinking—not just last-minute cramming.
• I create a supportive space where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and building their skills over time.
⸻
Who the Lessons Are For:
• K–12 students who need extra help in science, nutrition, or study skills
• IB or advanced-level students who want to deepen their understanding and prepare for post-secondary success
• Students who struggle with motivation, time management, or academic confidence
• Kids and teens who benefit from consistent, supportive, and positive tutoring that builds more than just grades
