About Matthew
High school student who has been taking piano lessons since the age of three. I am currently working toward completing my RCM Level 10 Certificate, and I achieved several First Class Honours with Distinction awards in my RCM Level 8, 9, and 10 practical and theory exams.
In addition, I was selected amongst a competitive pool of applicants to participate in the Senior Piano program at the Royal Conservatory Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy. I have also won several awards at various piano competitions including two first place awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival 2019 and the Unionville Music Festival 2020.
Being able to teach and share my musical skills and knowledge with others has always brought me joy, and I was delighted to be recruited as a volunteer music teacher at a private school where I had the opportunity to teach elementary students basic piano technique, scales, rhythm and music theory skills.
As a piano teacher, I hope to help students achieve their musical goals and to find their passion for music!

In all my lessons, I establish a warm, welcoming and friendly environment, and am patient with students even when progress is slow. I work with students to set small, achievable goals each week and provide constructive feedback and activities to improve their playing.
I can teach up to Level 8 RCM. I cater my lessons toward individual students' interests. Whether students want to prepare for formal RCM Piano or theory examinations or just want to play contemporary/pop of music for fun, I am here to help them achieve their piano-playing and musical goals, whatever they may be!
I have a flexible schedule during the summer and can teach students up to one-hour long lessons weekly. Lessons will take place in my home, and if lessons are for children, parents are welcome to stay for the duration of the lesson. I have a Yamaha upright piano as well as an electronic keyboard. I can also do virtual lessons.
Through my lessons, new pianists and beginner students can:
• Learn to read sheet music
• Learn basic music theory
• Play simple songs
• Develop a strong sense of rhythm
More experienced students can:
• Improve piano playing technique
• Develop a sense of music. They will learn to play music, not just play notes on a page
• Prepare for formal RCM Piano and theory examinations
• Play their favourite songs
