About Richard
Hi! I am a very experienced developer, and I have worked across multiple languages (C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python). I have delivered many commercial projects and have deployed my own projects, as well as writing about software development on my blog. I have a passion for helping developers to improve their skills and their abilities. I enjoy seeing programmers develop into well-rounded engineers who can think about all the facets of writing and shipping code, not just satisfying the requirements. My aim is to make senior developer out of junior developers, and to make awesome developers out of senior developers. Software development is not just writing code - it involves thinking about all of the 'ilities' that you read about in books and blogs, and I'm here to help you take care of them!

I have mentored many developers and I enjoy mentoring in many different ways, for example: - Assisting with a project-in-progress - Pair programming on a problem -introducing advanced techniques through refactoring I usually find that working on an existing project or existing code is the best way forward as it provides a goal to work towards. As well as teaching techniques, I also aim to improve: - Code readability and good communication of concepts - making code testable, and using TDD - minimizing the 'what does this code do again?' problem I can mentor at any level, but I generally assume some basic level of Python coding ability, so the ability to write basic functioning code. My aim is to take everything to the next level!
