About Huw Robert

In 2014 I graduated from Leeds Conservatoire with a 2:1 in Popular Music (specialising in guitar) and again in 2019 with a masters in composition. Throughout my career I have worked alongside numerous top producers and session musicians. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, my first instrument being guitar. I am the lead songwriter, singer and guitarist for rock band KOYO, who so far have released three studio albums to widespread critical acclaim, making end of year listings in Classic Rock, Louder Than War and PROG magazines. We've also performed at Download, Reading and Leeds, Ramblin’ Man and more. As a session musician, highlights include performing at Open’er festival in Poland (supporting M.I.A.) with pop singer KARI and performing on CBBC’s Blue Peter with pop singer RIKA. I'm also band leader and guitarist for pink suited funk and soul function band Club Mojo. I love passing on my knowledge and expertise to my students and acting as a role model and source of inspiration to them. In the future I aim to keep building on what I'm doing as a tutor, session musician and artist to see where it takes me next.

Leeds based Guitar Teacher. I teach guitar, ensemble and composition. I have a 100% pass rate for exams. I am fully DBS checked. I teach both face to face and online, meaning I can teach people all around the world. Feel free to get in touch wherever you are. In person, I teach privately out of the Chapel in Leeds - a beautiful, converted church and creative hub bringing together artists, musicians and producers from around the city. Perfectly situated close to the local communities of Meanwood, Kirkstall, West Park and the whole of Leeds. I teach freelance within schools such as Robert Ogden (National Autistic Society) and frequently run ensembles on behalf of Rock School UK. I also run guitar skills and ensemble groups at Leeds Junior Conservatoire. My teaching room is supplied with studio monitors, recording equipment, access to Logic Pro X, two amplifiers as well as spare guitars and ukuleles. This makes it an ideal space to teach composition as I am able to help students record and work on ideas they have. I teach all ages and abilities, albeit one-on-one, group sessions or ensembles, the latter helping students understand the disciplines of playing together. I specialise in rock, pop, indie, folk, funk, blues and all their subgenres. I also teach theory. The first thing we will establish together is what you want to get out of the lessons. First and foremost, I aim to ensure my lessons are fun and enjoyable. Music should be an escape, not a stress. However, serious musical ambition requires hard work, determination and focus. If you’re hoping to achieve more than simply acquiring what many say to be a highlight of their week, such as working towards grades or career goals, then the lessons will be more focused and rigorous while remaining fun and enjoyable. I hope to use my skills and industry experience to inspire and help students achieve their goals, helping them realise their full potential and understand the joys that learning an instrument can bring. Get in touch below if you think this is what you're looking for.
