About Cassie

I am a graduated university history student. I am on the Dean's List, was an honours high school graduate, and graduated with distinction. I also have past experience working with children in a learning environment, as a created and lead a summer camp at a museum and have done past tutoring before in high school and with my younger sibling. Additionally, I have been tutoring students for 5 years, and two years of it through this app.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are about making school seem less stressful and teaching kids that learning can be fun. I like to go through a few examples together and then give students a chance to interact with the work on their own. I am also a believer in developing growth mindset in children, where I would congratulate students on their process and not the product. Having a brother with an IEP and ADHD, I know that sitting for long periods of time can make kids antsy, me included, so I like to include short breaks of movement to re-centre and recharge the brain. It's good not only for mental health, but it also helps academic performance. I also like to encourage children to set their own goals so that we can work together to complete them. Learning is about the process and should be less focused on simply completing work (though for school assignments, it is still important). The journey to the finish line is an adventure that students should take the time to appreciate and enjoy so that they can be prouder of everything they have accomplished and be confident in who they are as a person.

In addition to teaching children, I am equipped with the skills and experience to help teens and adult develop their English capabilities. Skills of all levels are catered to and accounted for in my sessions, especially since I am certified in TEFL, I understand that the way people learn, and the background they come from can influence how they learn.
