About Owen
Hello, and thank you for considering me as your online tutor. My name is Owen Beukes, and I hold a BSc and BSc Hon degree in Physics. I am currently busy with my Master of Sciences in Astrophysical Sciences at North West University. I have more than 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring students at the Grade 10–12 level, and also undergraduate level. What sets me apart is that I have also worked as a matric exam marker, which means I understand exactly how marks are allocated, where students commonly lose points, and what examiners are looking for in a top-scoring answer. I am proficient in English and Afrikaans, and I can teach comfortably in either language to ensure you fully understand every lesson. In a typical one-hour online lesson with me, you can expect structure, clarity, and active participation: we start with a quick review, move into a clear explanation with worked examples, then work through problems together before you try some on your own with my immediate feedback. I end every session with a summary and a few targeted practice questions to reinforce what we have learned. My lessons are aimed at Grade 10–12 students who want to improve their marks, build genuine confidence, or prepare thoroughly for final exams. I pride myself on being punctual, prepared, and professional in every session. My teaching methodology is built on the principle that every student can succeed in Math and Physics, but not everyone learns the same way. I break down complex concepts into small, logical steps, using real-world examples and visual aids to make abstract ideas concrete. What makes me unique as a teacher is—I don't just teach the content; I teach students how exams are marked, what examiners look for, and how to avoid common mistakes that cost marks. I am proficient in English and can teach comfortably in both English and Afrikaans, adapting my language use to suit the student's home language preference. In a typical 60-minute lesson with me, students can expect a warm-up review of previous work (5 minutes), a clear explanation of a new topic with worked examples (20 minutes), guided practice where we solve problems together (20 minutes), independent practice with immediate feedback (10 minutes), and a quick summary with specific take-home tips (5 minutes). I also provide optional practice worksheets and past paper questions after each lesson. My lessons are aimed at Grade 10–12 students following the CAPS curriculum who want to improve their marks, build confidence, or prepare for final exams. I particularly enjoy working with students who feel "stuck" in Math or Physics and need patient, step-by-step help to catch up and move ahead.
