About Jacente
I have a certificate in teacher aide and assisted teaching primary school level reading, writing and comprehension for a year. I have been homeschooling my sons for three years using the Light Educational Ministries curriculum which is an advanced approach to learning the English language and its rules.

With a good foundation of English, I believe any child can succeed. I like to teach not only ‘how’ to learn but also the grammar rules of English -enabling a much more clearer understanding and fluency in reading and spelling. The curriculum I use in our home is Light Educational Ministries (LEM), and is Christian based. It covers primary school level English, which is the most profitable time frame for memory retention. For high school level English I would focus on where the child is at using a short written test, and encourage reading based on interest. For example, if a student had an interest in science but not English I would encourage reading about science. Or if a student preferred animals, I would point them to different age appropriate books and magazines. I would also encourage reading history where possible, to have a better understanding of the world we live in today and how it’s affected by the past. I would also encourage the more mature aged students to learn how to read and form opinions based on facts, and to think and argue critically and productively. Reading about news and politics would be useful in this area, and this can be found in newspapers and online news articles.
I would set out written work according to the student’s ability and use simple tips and skills to help build on where they are academically.
