About Jack
I'm based in London and graduated from Imperial College London with a First Class MEng in Aeronautical Engineering, including modules in spacecraft engineering — which is about as close as you get to actual rocket science. Alongside my studies I spent time in the RAF Reserves' University Air Squadron, and I now work as an engineer for the McLaren Formula 1 Team, so the physics and maths I teach isn't abstract to me — it's what I use day to day.
I started tutoring GCSE and A-Level students during my first year at Imperial and kept going right through my degree, so teaching has genuinely run alongside my own education rather than starting after it. That's given me a good feel for exactly where students get stuck, because I was recently sitting the same exams and university admissions tests myself.
Outside of work I play in a band and bake bread badly enough to keep it humbling. Lessons are always well-prepared and I reply to messages quickly — you won't be chasing me for anything.

I don't just re-teach the syllabus — I find out exactly where a topic stops making sense for you, then explain it two or three different ways until one clicks. I'm dyslexic myself, and growing up I had to build my own mental pictures for things when the standard explanation didn't land, so I've got a genuinely wide toolkit for approaching the same concept from different angles, and a lot of patience for finding the one that works for you. I teach visually wherever possible — diagrams and sketches over verbal explanation — and I connect what you're learning to real engineering from my job at McLaren Formula 1 Team: at GCSE that might be using kinetic energy (KE = ½mv²) to explain why braking distance shoots up as speed increases, and at A-Level or Further Maths it's why a suspension model uses a particular differential equation. Students remember the F1 example long after they've forgotten the textbook one, and it turns "why do I need this" into something they actually want to know.
Lessons run 1 to 1.5 hours over Zoom, and I've spent 5 years teaching A-Level and GCSE Physics, Maths and Further Maths with a track record of getting students to top grades — A/A* at A-Level and 8/9 at GCSE — as well as helping students who are a little further behind close the gap and reach those grades too. I also work with students preparing for ESAT, the engineering admissions test used by top universities.
