About Edward
I am an incoming maths undergraduate at Cambridge University and achieved 4 A* in my A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics as well as an S (the top grade) in both STEP II and III, and scored 90/100 in the MAT. I have also always keenly participated in Olympiads throughout my secondary school education. Following BPhO1, BPhO2 and the various training and selection camps, I was chosen to represent Britain at the European Physics Olympiad, where I won a bronze medal. In maths olympiads, I have multiple times qualified for both BMO1 and BMO2, and have won multiple medals and book prizes in the junior and intermediate maths olympiads. I really enjoy tackling hard maths and physics problems that require extensive thought and ingenuity and want to help sixth form students preparing for STEP and other admissions tests, as well as students of all ages interested in, and preparing for, maths and physics olympiads.
I have experience helping students of all ages and abilities with olympiad and admissions test problems and, in Easter 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I set up a pro-bono maths tutoring organisation, Mission Maths, helping KS3 and GCSE students catch up following the national closure of schools. My lessons tend to last 45-60 minutes but vary heavily depending on what the student finds most useful and productive.

As both a tutor and student of maths and physics, I believe in the importance of grasping fundamental concepts and always ensure my students have an idea of where important results and theorems come from, rather than just getting them to memorise formulae off by heart. I find this is vital to be able to tackle harder problems, such as those in oxbridge entrance tests or olympiads.
When preparing students for specific tests, I heavily draw on past paper material and work through past problems, so that my students can familiarise themselves with the style of problems they will be faced with in the exam. Along the way, I try to give hints and insights into key problem solving techniques and tricks that are often required in these problems. I also aim to develop key problem-solving skills, such as perseverance and ingenuity.
